Overview

Special education in New Hampshire runs on the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) plus state rules administered by the New Hampshire Department of Education. Local districts deliver the services.

New Hampshire uses the federal vocabulary. The team that writes the plan is the IEP team, and the plan is the IEP. Texas terms such as ARD are Texas specific and do not describe New Hampshire practice, so we do not use them on these pages.

We do not publish New Hampshire day counts or deadline numbers. Timelines have exceptions and they are updated by rule. Confirm anything time sensitive with New Hampshire Department of Education materials and with your district in writing.
